One of the first administrators of St Joseph Church from 1858 to 1863.
Father Fridolin was born on February 17, 1823 in Murg, Baden (Diocese of Freiburg). Another account has his birthday as November 17, 1823, the likely confusion arising from smudged documents in German. The General Catalog of world wide Redemptorists in the 1860s has his birthdate in February. He was the brother of Brother Thomas Lütte, CSSR. Father Fridolin made his profession as a Redemptorist on February 2, 1844 and ordained on March 20, 1847, in the shrine town of Altoetting. He was a member of the Austrian Province briefly but came to America as a missionary from that province in May 1848. He was transferred to the St. Louis Province on November 9, 1875, when the American mission divided into two provinces--St. Louis in the West, Baltimore in the East. Father Fridolin died as a member of the St. Michael's community in Chicago, on September 11, 1893. He is buried in that city.
His missionary assignments were varied and he leaves a long list of experiences in numerous parts of the country, north to south. He began in Buffalo at St. Mary's (1848-1849); Most Holy Redeemer, New York City (1849-1851); St. Mary's Novitiate, Cumberland, MD (Lector, 1851-1853; rector 1853-1854; prefect of students, April-September 1854); Most Holy Redeemer, New York City (1854-1857); St. Alphonsus, Baltimore (1857-1858); St. Peter the Apostle, Philadelphia (1858); St. Mary's Assumption, New Orleans (1858-1866); St. Mary's, Annapolis (Lector, 1866-1868); St. Joseph's, Rochester, NY (August-November 1868); St. Michael the Archangel, Baltimore (1868-1869); St. Mary's Seminary, Ilchester, MD (Lector, 1869-1870); Holy Redeemer, Detroit (1870-1872); St. Michael, Chicago (1872); St. Mary's Assumption, New Orleans (1872-1876); St. Michael's, Chicago (June 1876-November 1878); Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Kansas City (Missionary, December 1878-December 1883); St. Michael's, Chicago (1884-September 1885); Holy Redeemer, Detroit (September 1885-August 1886); St. Michael's, Chicago (August 1886-1893, rector from 1887-1893).
Both Archbishop Patrick Feehan of Chicago and Archbishop William Hickley Gross of Oregon attended the obsequies, so well regarded was this priest. His brother, Tom, (both biologically and religiously) too, had his share of accolades. (Redemptorist Archives, Philadelphia)
